Meet Taia!

“My philosophy has always been, that if you equip and empower this generation with truth, you will enable them to make decisions for themselves. Not a truth but the truth! I’m not in the business of building fortresses around them. My prayer is that God would grace me to help them navigate the culture with the truth of His word.”

Sincere, Dedicated, and Relevant are just a few words that describe Taia Crews. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, (Go Bucks!) Taia has worked in public service since her childhood. She was seven years old when she began to sing with her younger brother and sister. For the next two years she accompanied her parents as they traveled throughout the city at various churches, nursing homes, and mental hospitals. It was during these times that Taia began to learn the importance of compassion. As a pre-teen she began to write poetry and short stories to escape family problems. Shying away from the local scene, she involved herself with community outreach programs such as D.A.R.E. and People with a Purpose. Never far away from a pen and paper, as a high school senior she co-wrote and produced a stage play honoring the legacy of black history month. Supervising over 40 actors and stage hands, Taia and her friends caught the attention of local media who applauded their efforts and presentation. The play went on to travel to a local inner city school and delivered a message of strength and unity for that community.

She has been trained and guided under the tutelage of Author and Bishop Brian Keith Williams of Columbus, Ohio and Overseer Terry Clark of Charlotte, NC among many others. Their extensive instruction has adequately prepared her in spite of her young age.  Taia began to address abstinence and “real-girl issues” over three years ago after several parents approached her about speaking with their children. Her unassuming approach with the youth caused her to “stand out.” Always acknowledging that she is a work in progress, her personal story of triumph has helped many youth make better decisions in their own lives. She founded Passion4Purity, a community outreach that mentors young women to greatness through consistent fellowship, friendship, and fun. She also hosted a daily youth radio program in Charlotte that addresses the issues that are important to this generation.

Taia is completing her studies for a bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies with a minor in English. Among various projects and outreach endeavors, she has recently launched a social networking site (www.passionforpurity.net) for young women. The site enables them to connect and be equipped for their journey in Christ. When she is not studying or working with young women, Taia is serving in various capacities and is a firm believer that it keeps her grounded and balanced.

The PowHERhouse Program

Our program uses a consistent and effective format to empower young women to aim high. Every session consists of an opening "motivational minute," an information session, a reinforcing activity, and affirmations for each young lady.

Young women can also sign up to speak with one of several well equipped volunteers during their general session. These times are used to address any personal challenges that the attendants may be facing.

For further information about our sessions please visit the Power Sessions tab located on the navigation bar.
